FRIDAY, September 23: Introductory Talk and Kirtan
7:00-9:00PM
Introductory ‘what is yoga?’ talk. During the first half of this session, James will introduce Indian Philosophy and Vedic world view: the purpose of life and how to realise it; yoga as the practical school of Indian philosophy that works with human nature to harness the miraculous gifts of our bodies, senses, minds and intellects for the good of the whole. The talk will also address how yogasana fits into the broader picture of yoga and introduce key principles (from Patanjali and Gita) that will be explored more deeply over the weekend. We will then sing together in the blissful practice of kirtan. FREE ENTRY
SATURDAY, September, 24: The Power of Love in the Context of Yoga
According to the teachings of yoga, our very essence is love, joy, infinite creative potential. So how do we realise this? This day’s classes will focus on how we can cultivate and harness the power of love in our yoga practice in order to experience greater happiness, efficiency and fulfilment in all aspects of our lives.
10:00am -1:00pm: Asana(postures) Focus Class
In the first part of the class, with reference to key teachings from the Yoga Sutras and Bhagavad Gita, James will talk about how we can infuse the power of love into our asana practice and then take it into all our activities. We will then explore this in a balanced and focused asana class that grows from consideration and application of the yamas and niyamas as they relate to our mat practice.
1:00-2:00PM: Karma Yoga/Yajna Lunch
Focus on recognition, gratitude and awareness. Yoga is about the whole of our lives, when we infuse it into our daily activities, they can be trans- formed in wonderful ways. In the third chapter of the Bhagavad Gita, Krishna explains in detail how to do this, by practicing karma yoga, and ‘yajna’: the action that nourishes. James will briefly explain this concept before we experience it in practice through the act of eating, transforming it into a nourishing exercise in mindfulness and a blissful festival of worship.
Optional: We will be walking across the street to have a lunch served with love and awareness by Café Abyssinia. Lunch cost between $10-15 .
2:00-2:45PM: Break
2:45-5:30PM: (Practical Yoga Philosophy)
Talk and Meditation.
In this talk, James will focus further on karma yoga and the power of love. This will refer in particular to the Bhagavad Gita and will also use poetry to illustrate the power of the application of real love to our activities. We will then close the day with kirtan and meditation, dedicated to opening and to love.
SUNDAY, September, 25: Unveiling our inner light:
Just as the teachings of yoga describe our essence as love, another way it is described is as the pure, self-effulgent light of consciousness. Sunday’s classes will focus on light, including the symbolism of surya namaskara, how we overcome darkness, and how we can be the lamps which light humanity’s way to a golden new dawn.
10:00am-1:00pm: Focused Asana Exploration:
Opening to Light/The Symbolism of Surya Namaskara: opening to the one light of the universe, surrendering to our highest self. Creating light, space and freedom from the inside in our asana practice. Techniques to keep our practice full of light and liveliness.
1:00-2:00: Karma Yoga Lunch:
Focus on ‘Rasananda’. There are many techniques for the practice of karma yoga. Here we will practice ‘rasananda’, letting the sense organ of taste come to centre stage as a demonstration of how we work with our senses to nourish the whole.
Optional: we will heading down Magazine St.to a lunch buffet served with love and awareness by Nirvana.Lunch cost between $10-15.
2:00-2:45 break
2:45-5:30: Unveiling our inner light:
Talk and Meditation: The benefits and power of satsang, symbolism of Ramayana, how we can unveil our inner light and glory for the benefit of ourselves, our society and our planet.
James Boag

Kundalini Yoga (as taught by Yogi Bhajan) combines breath, movement, mantra, and meditation into sets, called kriyas, addressing the mind, body, and spirit holistically. Yogi Bhajan taught that, through the practice of Kundalini Yoga and meditation, your glandular and nervous systems are stimulated, and your capacity for creative potential is heightened. You gain inner vitality to compensate for the adverse effects of stress so you can excel in life. In this workshop, we’ll cover the basics of pranayama (breath work), mantras, and chakras, as well as the practice of kriyas (yoga sets) and meditations, to bring awareness and consciousness, not only to our yoga practice, but to our lives. We’ll also discuss elements of yogic philosophy, lifestyle, and diet, and how to integrate the practice into our daily routine. This class is suitable for all levels of experience.
